Write to Connect – Write to Grow – Write to Discover

Writers & Non-Writers welcome

Welcome!

Thank you so much for taking an interest in the Freebird writing community.

I created these groups because writing and self-exploration can be a lonely process, but when done in a safe community, it can be fun, inspiring, and integrative.

How It Works

Safety is the priority in all
Freebird writing groups.

I work to establish a secure environment where everyone can write honestly to access their truths.  Knowing who you truly are is powerful.

The first step is to gain awareness.  Once you are aware of your story and how you feel about it, you can decide if you want to change the direction it is going in.  Writing honestly can help you do that.

Sharing one’s writing can be an integrative and liberating experience, but it is always optional and protected under agreed upon confidentiality.  The group is asked to listen with an open heart and to try to understand and be supportive.

These are not critical writing groups, but instead ones based on what we like and remember

Writing is an act of communication, and flows best and is the most interesting when one feels safe and free to be authentic and to create an honest expression of themselves.

I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see, and what it means
— Joan Didion
Expressing and listening to one’s story is an ancient mode of healing. There is an overwhelming need today for people to be heard, to tell their stories, to learn and grow from their experience both individually and collectively.
— Catherine Ann Jones

Ways to participate

  • Virtual Writing Classes

In a small virtual group, we will share conversation, guided exercises, and time to write as well as read (your choice).

Participants will have an opportunity to explore writing as a practice to access inner wisdom and growth.

  • In-Person Writing Workshops

Write in the company of others to connect, deepen, and explore.

These in-person classes will consist of guided exercises (ex. Life mapping, painting & writing, letter writing from future self), prompts, as well as time to write and optionally share.

  • Writing Retreat in Guatemala

Come to beautiful Lake Atitlan and write with a community of fellow adventurers! This carefully curated experience will take place at a stellar retreat center on the shores of a sparkling crater lake surrounded by volcanos and mountains. All your meals will be prepared by a private chef so you can relax, be inspired by the coloful Mayan towns and culture, and enjoy yourself!
